RV Spring Cleaning: Getting Your RV Ready for Adventure

Spring is just around the corner, you know what that means: RV spring cleaning. Any RV owner knows that there are annual routines to help maintain their vehicle. Whether you rent out your recreational vehicle or use your motorhome yourself, it’s always good to keep it in tiptop shape

Here are some spring cleaning tips from the pros to help you freshen up your RV!

Wash Down Your Rig

Every motorhome needs a good wash and wax every once in a while. When you make the exterior shine, you give a great boost to the appearance of your RV. Whether you want to rent it out or have the nicest motorhome in the RV resort, there’s nothing better.

Moreover, it’s important to never skimp out on a clean. Wax your motorhome at least once each year for a resilient shine.

Protect the Interior of the RV

Just like the exterior, your RV’s interior is an important part of RV spring cleaning. Detail the interior so that it looks great. No one wants to stare at a scuffed-up console as they roll down the road.

For your motorhome, detailing entails the following. First, wash everything on the inside. Then, spray on a leather or vinyl protectant to help it shine.

Lastly, think about some upgrades and accessories! How can you improve your own RV adventure? Maybe a CB radio or dock for your smartphone?

Spraying Down the Shower

What would RV spring cleaning be without cleaning the area where you clean yourself?

Use a cleaning product specific to your shower and let it sit while you tackle the rest of the bathroom. Moreover, avoid any cleaners that have bleach in them. This has the potential to degrade the seals over time.

Additionally, it’s a good idea to wipe down the walls and doors whenever you use the shower. This prevents a buildup of grime and soap.

Tackling the Rest of the Bathroom

For the toilet, try a combination of baking soda and lemon juice. Let it sit for about 15 minutes and then scrub with a toilet brush. With disinfecting wipes, clean off the exterior of the toilet.

Check the bathroom for any expired products and toss them. The same goes for any first aid items you have here or in the RV. Replace any medications or wound kits that are outdated.

Boost the Bedroom

If you used your RV in the fall or winter, you might need to change out winter sheets with a lighter set for the spring and summer. Additionally, be sure to wash all your blankets and the mattress pad. If it’s sunny out, hang the blankets for a good air dry.

Rotate your mattress and use a vacuum to clean off the base of the bed. Use the vacuum on the mattress itself as well.

Dust your curtains with the soft-brush attachment of your vacuum. Lastly, be sure to change out the batteries on any smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors.

Keep the Living Areas Livable

For RV spring cleaning in your main areas, be sure to get the dust out of all the nooks and crannies. Use a microfiber cloth and work your way throughout the area. Be sure to get the forgettable areas around vents and electronics, too.

Next, with another microfiber cloth and a bit of dish soap in warm water, wipe down all the surfaces.

  • Walls
  • Fridge door
  • Cabinets
  • Stove door
  • Counters
  • Table

Dry everything off with a soft cloth.

If you have any throw rugs, take them outside and shake them out. Leave them to hang out in the sun for a while as well. Then, vacuum out the sofa cushions to get any crumbs, debris, and dust out of there.

Next, clean out the roof vent. Remove the screen and wash it in some warm water mixed with a bit of soap. Put a towel down and lay the vent out, wiping off the blades with a soft cloth and soapy water. Let it dry and put everything back in place.

Cleaning Out the Kitchen

An important part of RV spring cleaning is how you tackle the kitchen. Often, people wipe things down and toss out old food and call it a day. However, it’s good to be a little more thorough.

Start with the inside of the oven. Make a paste out of water and baking soda and coat the surfaces. Then, clean the top of the stove with that same paste.

Wipe everything away with a warm, wet washcloth. Lastly, remove the knobs from the range and clean under those as well.

Next, it’s time for the hood filter. Fill the sink with hot water and add a squirt of soap. Then, mix in about a ¼ cup of baking soda.

Leave the filter sitting in the sink for about 10 minutes. Next, scrub it down with a bristled brush and dry it off with a soft cloth.

Go through your cabinets and pantry to clear out any item that is past its prime. Finally, wash the garbage can and let it dry out before you put it back.
